Global: Nominations Deadline for International Geothermal Awards is Tonight! - The GRC awards recognize distinguished colleagues in the geothermal community from around the world and have been a highlight of the geothermal calendar since the late 1970’s. The deadline for nominations is midnight tonight, June 14, 2019.

Monday, June 10

USA: Electricity from Coal is Surpassed by Renewable Energy - Renewable energy’s share of total available installed U.S. generating capacity is up to 21.56%. By comparison, coal’s share dropped to 21.55% (down from 23.04% a year ago).

USA, Nevada: Competitive Geothermal Lease Sale Scheduled for September 17, 2019 - 21 parcels of public lands in White Pine County to be offered for lease at the September 2019 Competitive Geothermal Lease Sale. The 15-day public review and comment period concludes on Monday, June 24, 2019.

Philippines: Bacon-Manito Geothermal Power Plant to Supply Electricity to Hospital - First Gen Corp. said it signed a two-year contract with a Batangas-based medical center to supply power for its operations.

Kenya: Consultancy Opportunity on Generating Electricity from Surplus Geothermal Brine- The company would like to update the feasibility study taking into account the increased brine quantities from the additional plants, future plants and the un-utilised wells. The update is expected to take about 12 months.

USA: New Technology Can Salvage Additional 15% Power from Discarded Geothermal Fluids - PwrCor Collaborates with SMU Geothermal Laboratories to Pursue an Unexploited Geothermal Application.

Canada: Research Begun to Identify Feasibility of Geothermal Systems in Northern Quebec Region - “Geothermal energy is a local source that could enhance the self-sufficiency of these communities while offsetting carbon emissions by reducing the use of diesel.”

Europe: New Board at European Geothermal Energy Council - "We need cooperation in the sector more than ever to build on this success and for geothermal to finally reach its potential,” said Miklos Antics, new President of EGEC.

Finance: Widespread Adoption of Renewable Energy Technologies Creates Employment Opportunities - Around 94,000 are employed in the global geothermal energy sector with about 35,000 employed in the USA and 23,000 in the European Union

Ethiopia: Kengen Wins Contract to Provide Geo-Scientific Survey and Drill Eight Wells at Tulu Moye Geothermal Operations - This will be the second such tender for KenGen in the horn country after it announced February that it has won part of a Sh7.6 billion contract to supply geothermal drilling services to the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).

Kenya: Geothermal Power Plant Featured on New Bank Note - The red 50-shilling note has a “green energy” theme highlighting wind power, geothermal power, and solar power.
