USA, Nevada: Ormat Revenue Increases Despite Puna Geothermal Venture Shutdown- Total revenues of $199.0 million, up 8.2% compared to the first quarter of 2018 despite the volcano-related shutdown of Ormat’s Puna power plant in Hawaii.

Kenya: New Transmission Line to Deliver Olkaria Geothermal Power to Western Region- The 300km high voltage line, with the benefit of less power losses, is set for completion early next year and will connect Counties in Western Kenya to geothermal power plants in Olkaria, Naivasha.

El Salvador: UN Geothermal Training Programme to Provide Services Through La Geo- A memorandum of understanding was signed between the United Nations University Geothermal School in Iceland and LaGeo geothermal company in El Salvador on ongoing co-operation in the field of geothermal training and the development of geothermal knowledge in Latin America.

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: Drilling Starts at 10 MW Geothermal Power Plant Site- When history is written, it will show May 6 as the beginning of a new era in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), the era of geothermal energy.

Science & Technology: US Lab Develops Self-Healing Cement that Performs Strongly in Harsh Geothermal Conditions - With improvements like self-healing cement, geothermal energy has the potential to be an applicable, sustainable energy source.

Kenya: Tender Invitation to Connect Makeup Wells at Olkaria Geothermal Power Plant- The Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited (KenGen) has issued a tender invitation for the connection of makeup wells OW-53B, OW-53C and OW- 53D to Olkaria IAU Power Plant at geothermal development division.

Turkey: JESDER, World Bank and EBRD to Study Environmental Impact of Geothermal Energy - The Geothermal Power Plant Investors Association (JESDER) is collaborating with the World Bank and the European Development Bank (EBRD) in order to assess and reduce the environmental impact of geothermal power plants.

Thursday, May 9
Montserrat: Premier Says Geothermal Power Project is Still Moving Forward - “On geothermal, we have already two wells that have proven capacity to support our needs. And, a third well that has unfortunately met with technical difficulties. However, we are still moving forward to develop this form of green energy, through working with partners to bring geothermal power plant in place.”

USA: FERC Predicts an Additional 913 MW of Geothermal Steam Capacity Will be Added by 2022 - The total available installed geothermal steam generating capacity is now 3.84 GW which represents 0.32% of total capacity.

Netherlands: Shell to Explore for Geothermal Heat in the Rotterdam Region - Eneco and Shell have submitted an application for an exploration permit to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate (EZK) to search for geothermal heat in the Rotterdam region (Rotterdam, Capelle aan den IJssel, Lansingerland, Krimpen aan den IJssel and Zuidplas).

Indonesia: New Service Streamlines Permitting for Geothermal Power Plant Projects- Electricity licensing services can now be accessed more easily and quickly through Online Single Submission (OSS).

Canada: Funds Provided for Regional Assessment of Geothermal Energy Potential in the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt - Geoscience BC Receives $5 Million in Bridge Funding to Continue Minerals, Energy and Water Research.
