Call for Sessions for GRC Annual Meeting & Expo
- Due November 8, 2019
This is a “Call for Sessions” for the 2020 GRC Annual Meeting & Expo to be held at the Peppermill Resort in Reno, Nevada from October 18-21, 2020. We are inviting proposals for specific sessions at next year’s meeting. Sessions can be organized and led by up to three people, a session chair and two co-chairs. Successful session chairs will be expected to assist the technical chair to recruit authors and organize reviews. A session will include at least four papers. More Information.......

Japan: Experimental Geothermal Energy Conversion Technology System Charges Smartphones at Hot Springs - According to city officials, the system generates a small charge utilizing the difference in temperatures between close to 100-degree spa water springing from the ground at the rear of the Kannawa facility for a large communal bath and the outside air, which is normally between zero and 30 degrees.

Netherlands: New Data Made Available for Ultra Deep Geothermal Energy Resources - In September, several research studies were completed and five research reports published. These studies are primarily focused on Ultra Deep Geothermal Energy (UDG). This concerns geothermal heat with a temperature of 120 degrees Celsius or more found in the Dutch subsurface at depths of 4 kilometers or more.

Mexico: Government Proposes Granting Clean Energy Certificates to Geothermal Power Plants - If made official, the SENER proposal would grant numerous CELs to CFE’s existing hydroelectric and geothermal plants going forward.
United Kingdom: Geothermal Spa Now to Open in Spring Next Year - "The decision to move the geothermal launch date was made as it has become apparent that the power upgrade required for the geothermal launch will not be completed this winter but also in the light of the business risks associated with a winter launch."

Nicaragua: IDB Funds to Help Development of Geothermal Energy Projects - The funds would help with geothermal pre-investment studies – particularly for the Cosigüina project – and environmental management of commercial wells. Other geothermal projects include Mombacho and Casita-San Cristóbal.
USA, Hawaii: Ormat to Drill New Well at Puna Geothermal Venture - The company recently issued notices to Big Island residents that it will begin drilling on a 5,000-foot deep production well next Wednesday. It expects to complete the project by mid-January.

Germany: International Geothermal Association Announces Board Election Results - The elections to the Board of Directors of the International Geothermal Association (IGA) for the 2020-2023 period have concluded and results are in.
Kenya: Menengai Geothermal Power Plant Construction to Start Before End of Year - He says 85 per cent of works on a 25km long pipeline which is expected to carry 170MW of steam to be used by the power plants in producing electricity is complete.
Commonwealth of Dominica: Well Successfully Re-Opened at 7 MW Geothermal Power Project - With the well reopened, the DGDC will now commence a series of tests on the well until the 23rd of October.
Science & Technology: Seequent Announces Update for the Leapfrog Geothermal Software - Seequent has announced an update for the Leapfrog Geothermal software. This 4.0 release includes new tools to make the process of interactive decision making around drilling simpler and more streamlined.
