Finland: Artificial Intelligence Survey Shows Big Potential for Geothermal Energy in South and Southwest - The total theoretical energy potential from the top 300 meters of the Finnish sub-strata is about 300 million GWh. Most geothermal energy, ie geoenergy, is in Southern and Southwest Finland, where in the best areas the energy storage of one geothermal well is about 4.5 GWh.

Croatia: 17.5 MWe Velika Ciglena Geothermal Plant is Commissioned - In December 2018 Turboden started-up the largest ORC system in Europe of 17.5 MWe in the Velika Ciglena geothermal power plant, Croatia, for the Turkish customer Geoen – MB Holding.
USA, Hawaii: Puna Geothermal Venture Given Go-Ahead to Restore Road Access - As for when PGV could restart operations, Kaleikini said that will depend on assessments that have been mostly on hold without road access. He previously said that could take about 18 months from when a road could be built.
Kenya: KenGen Seeks Consultant in Researching Mineral Extraction from Geothermal Brine - Through a tender notice, KenGen invited eligible firms and entities to provide application research on mineral extractions from the hot brine— the waste stream that the firm pumps out of the ground. Deadline for submissions is 22nd January.

Canada: Open Access Lab Dedicated to Geothermal Energy Opens in Quebec City- Outside partners can use the LOG equipment for free. They can come analyze their rock samples or even test innovative new materials for thermal conductivity and other geothermal properties.
United Kingdom: Grant Awarded to Support Research of Geothermal Resources in Cornwall - The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) is to support geothermal research with a £1.8M grant awarded under its £24M fourth round of highlight topic funding.
Kazakhstan: South Korea to Help Map Geothermal Resources - The respective agreement on geothermal projects was signed with a leading Islamic company a few days ago.
