The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) is to support geothermal research with a £1.8M grant awarded under its £24M fourth round of highlight topic funding.
Dr. Christopher Rochelle |
British Geological Survey geochemist Christopher Rochelle’s Geothermal power generated from UK granites (Gwatt) project is one of 14 initiatives to receive funding from NERC.
Through GWatt, Rochelle will work to deliver greater understanding of the deep geothermal resources in Cornwall and will work with Herriot Watt University, Camborne School of Mines, Geoscience, Geothermal Engineering, and the Cornwall and Isles Of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership on the project.
According to Rochelle, the work aims to reduce the uncertainty associated with geothermal exploration through a detailed appraisal of existing and newly gathered data gained from the geothermal project underway at United Downs.
