Call for Sessions for GRC Annual Meeting & Expo
- Due November 8, 2019

This is a “Call for Sessions” for the 2020 GRC Annual Meeting & Expo to be held at the Peppermill Resort in Reno, Nevada from October 18-21, 2020. We are inviting proposals for specific sessions at next year’s meeting. Sessions can be organized and led by up to three people, a session chair and two co-chairs. Successful session chairs will be expected to assist the technical chair to recruit authors and organize reviews. A session will include at least four papers. More Information.......

Netherlands: Dutch Government Initiates the ‘Netherlands Seismic Campaign for Geothermal Energy' - SCAN will complete a map of the Dutch deep subsurface as much a possible by filling in the blank spots, and by doing so help support the future determination of geothermal potential.

Greece: 10 MW Geothermal District Heating Network to Go Ahead in Alexandroupolis - The thermal power of the field is estimated at about 10 MW of which 9 MW will be used for district heating in three rural areas. The remaining 1 MW will be used to heat 22 municipal buildings as well as all SOS Village buildings for which the Municipality has provided heating.

Finance: Geothermal Capacity Anticipated to Grow to 18 GW by 2024 - IEA - Geothermal capacity is anticipated to grow 28%, reaching 18 GW by 2024, with Asia responsible for one-third of global expansion, mainly through projects currently under construction in Indonesia and the Philippines, followed by Kenya, whose cumulative geothermal capacity is set to overtake Iceland’s during the forecast period.

Australia: There is a Geothermal Power Plant Down Under! - Again! - Green Thermal Energy Technologies has announced the commissioning of the Winton geothermal power station in Queensland, Australia.

United Kingdom: British Geological Survey Calls for More Research into Geothermal District Heating Schemes - BGS said their findings confirmed that a small quantity of heat from a very large volume of water could provide low-carbon heating for many UK towns and cities.

Wednesday, October 23
USA, Washington D.C.: New Legislation Would Accelerate Geothermal Energy Development in the United States - The Advanced Geothermal Innovation Leadership Act of 2019 (the “AGILE” Act) includes provisions for research and development of both existing and enhanced geothermal systems, resource assessment updates, grant program authorization, and improved permitting.

USA, Washington D.C.: New Legislation Would Boost Geothermal Energy on Public Lands - The Public Land Renewable Energy Development Act (PLREDA) of 2019 would streamline the permitting process for renewable energy development on public lands and establish a revenue sharing mechanism to ensure local communities receive a percentage of the revenue created by these projects.

Ethiopia: Drilling Contract Signed for 50 MW First Phase of Tulu Moye Geothermal Project - KenGen, Tulu Moye Geothermal Operations sign drilling contract.

Kenya: Unit II of Olkaria V Geothermal Power Plant In Service - Both Unit 1 and 2 will supply a total of 160 MW of electricity and absorbing 500 tonnes of dry steam per hour, at temperatures of about 270 degrees Celsius.

Canada: Drilling of Second Well at Estevan Geothermal Power Project Due to Begin - “At this point, we believe we can have power to the grid at the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022.”

USA, California: Wildfire Burning Near The Geysers Geothermal Field - "Some of our operations have been temporarily suspended but we expect production will resume very soon," Calpine spokesman Brett Kerr said in an email.

Global: Next Issue of the Geothermal Magazine Available Next Week - Volume 48, No. 5 of the internationally-renowned geothermal energy magazine will be published next week.

Indonesia: First Phase of Sorik Marapi Geothermal Energy Project Complete - Congratulations to the KS Orka team on the completion of the first phase of the Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Project in Indonesia.

USA, California: New Community Choice Aggregator is Opportunity for Geothermal Energy - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors laid the groundwork Tuesday, Oct. 15, to get into the business of buying and selling electricity. The supervisors voted 3-2 to approve an ordinance establishing a community choice energy (CCE) program.
