Monday, September 9
Germany: Fifth Well Being Drilled at Munich Geothermal District Heating Project - The fifth borehole for the geothermal plant of Stadtwerke München in Sendling will soon be completed. The drill is currently milling through the rocks under the Theresienwiese.

Tuesday, September 10
New Zealand: Commercial Extraction of Silica from Geothermal Brine Plant Begins Construction - The first soil has been turned to mark the beginning of construction of a world-first commercial-scale plant to extract valuable minerals from geothermal fluid.

Japan: Construction of 14.9 MW Appi Geothermal Power Plant Begins - Appi Geothermal Power Plant, whose capacity is 14,900kW, will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and stable power supply. Aiming to start commercial operation in April 2024, Appi Geothermal Energy Corporation is proceeding with construction works safely, with consideration to natural environment.

United Kingdom: Drilling Completed at United Downs Geothermal Project - Initial tests by Geothermal Engineering Ltd. at the 5.1 kilometer (3.2 mile) deep well suggest that the United Downs project in Redruth, Cornwall is capable of producing power, the company said. Once fully operational, it could supply as much as 3 megawatts of electricity.

Geothermal Event! Call for Sessions for 2020 GRC Annual Meeting & Expo - This is a “Call for Sessions” for the 2020 GRC Annual Meeting & Expo to be held at the Peppermill Resort in Reno, Nevada from October 18-21, 2020. We are inviting proposals for specific sessions at next year’s meeting.

Switzerland: Government to Help Fund Exploration for Haute-Sorne Geothermal Project - The Swiss Federal Office of Energy today announced that the federal government will support the geothermal project in Haute-Sorne (JU) with a reconnaissance contribution of CHF 64.1 million (Art. 33, Energy Act).

Japan: JOGMEC to Drill Test Bores on Behalf of Potential Developers - State-owned resources agency Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) will conduct test bores -- part of the financially risky early phase of development -- on behalf of potential developers starting in the fiscal year from April 2020.

USA: Baker Hughes to Regain Control of Oil-Field and Geothermal Services Company - GE executives have said they planned to wind down their stake in the business, which GE acquired when it merged its struggling oil and gas division with Baker Hughes in a 2017 deal. The combination created a new public company that was 62.5% owned by GE.

Saturday, September 14
Belgium: Balmatt Geothermal Project Paused for Investigation - A power failure was followed by an earthquake measuring 2.1 on the Richter scale. The earthquake was the result of a sudden release of pressure that had been increasing as cooled water was re-injected.
