New Zealand: Contact Commits to Drill Four Geothermal Appraisal Wells at Tauhara - Among the highlights are a commitment to drill four geothermal appraisal wells at Tauhara in anticipation of a final investment decision to develop a new renewable power station.

Germany: Voting for International Geothermal Association Board Ends September 30 - If you are a member of an Affiliated Organization like the Geothermal Resources Council (GRC), please contact your coordinator and get your IGA ID (log-in & password) to be able to access the IGA Voting Platform.

Latin America: Geothermal Development Facility for Latin America - End of Fourth Call for EOI - Call for Expressions of Interest #4 for Geothermal Development Facility for Latin America Ends August 29th.

Italy: Construction on New Geothermal Plant in Umbria to Start in November
Geotermia, inizio lavori previsto - The geothermal plant will be "The first in the world with zero impact, with zero seismic risks and zero 'infection' of surface waters”.

Finance: Corporations Continue to Favor Renewable Power Purchase Agreements - Corporates purchased 8600 MW of clean energy in the first half of the year, up from 7200 MW in the same period of 2018.

Kenya: Contract Signed for Steam from 105 MW Menengai Geothermal Project - GDC & Kenya Power have signed a Steam Payment Agreement for the 105MW to be produced by Independent Power Producers (IPPs) at the Menengai Geothermal Project.

Iceland: Employment Opportunity as Director of the Geothermal Training Programme of the United Nations University - A written application, along with attachments should be sent to Orkustofnun, Grensásvegi 9, 108 Reykjavík, or at ods@os.is, no later than 2nd September 2019.

USA, California: EnergySource Files a Patent for Lithium Extraction from Geothermal Brine Process - The system and process are configured for the sequential recovery of zinc, manganese, and lithium from a Salton Sea Known Geothermal Resource Area brine.

Poland: Construction Progresses at Toruń Geothermal District Heating Project - Involves drilling more than 2 kilometers below ground to tap into water naturally heated to about 64 degrees.

Friday, August 16
United Kingdom: "Permeability is Promising" at United Downs Geothermal Power Project Wells- Both wells intersected the fault at the predicted depth and the temperature at the bottom of the deeper well is around 190C, which is also as expected.

St Vincent and the Grenadines: First Well at Geothermal Project Encounters Permeability Problems - While drilling the first well, they went down 2700 metres, which is 200 to 300 metres more than they thought they would need to in order to find the desired heat.

USA, Nevada: Steamboat Hills Geothermal Plant Enhancement Commences - The expansion involves the installation of a new geothermal plant that can produce 30 megawatts of electricity. The new plant replaces an existing 10-megawatt system.
