    Wednesday, June 19
    USA: Latest Update from the Geothermal Technologies Office - The webinar focused on keeping the geothermal community fully updated on progress at the U.S. Department of Energy, with Dr. Hamm highlighting ongoing efforts within GTO.

    Finance: The World Will Get Half Its Power From Wind, Solar by 2050 - To keep an electrified energy sector on a 2-degree trajectory, we will need to deploy additional zero-carbon technologies that are dispatchable and economic running at low capacity factors, or technology that can capture and sequester emissions at scale.

    USA: Important Hearing on Opportunities and Challenges for Advanced Geothermal Energy Development in the U.S. - The purpose of the hearing was to examine opportunities and challenges for advanced geothermal energy development in the United States.

    Finance: Renewable Energy is Expanding in the Power Sector - Report - An estimated 0.5 GW of new geothermal power generating capacity came online in 2018, bringing the global total to around 13.3 GW. Turkey and Indonesia remained the leaders for new installations and accounted for about two-thirds of the new capacity installed.

    Germany: Nominees for International Geothermal Association Board of Directors Announced - The election for the International Geothermal Association ( IGA) Board of Directors will start on 30 June 2019 and run until 30 September.

    Switzerland: Canton of Vaud Plans for 20 Geothermal Power Plants by 2050 - The new cadastre lists 43 communities in the Vaud Mittelland with geothermal potential.

    Hungary: Government Plans a Geothermal Guarantee Fund - Soon, the government plans to set up a geothermal guarantee fund, the heat of the earth should be utilized better than before.

    Climate Change: Global Partnership Announced to Accelerate Low-Carbon Energy Transition - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) announced a global partnership today to accelerate low-carbon energy transition and offer concrete steps to achieve sustainable development.

    USA: GEO Act would establish public-private partnerships to improve the collection of geothermal data and reduce drilling risk - U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) today introduced the Geothermal Energy Opportunities (GEO) Act with Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).

    USA: "Regulatory reforms alone could double geothermal capacity" - Sen. Lisa Murkowski- "Whether it is used for heating our homes or keeping the lights on, geothermal provides clean and always-on energy that requires no external backup," Murkowski said.
