Finance: Geothermal Appears Favorable in Levelized Cost of Electricity Study

Levelised Costs of Electricity for Renewable Energy Technologies in ASEAN Member States II (News Release)

The ASEAN-German Energy Programme (AGEP), a jointly implemented project by the ACE and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) conducted a follow-up study to the previous Levelised Cost of Electricity of Selected Renewable Technologies in the ASEAN Member States released in November 2016.

This second study aims to determine the current levelised costs of electricity (LCOE) of solar photovoltaic, hydropower, wind, biomass, and geothermal.

With a total 134 projects evaluated, the study is expected to offer a better understanding of the LCOE for the five renewables technologies, and further identify necessary policies to encourage fair competition between renewables and conventional fossil fuel-based power plants in the ASEAN Member States.
