The GRC has issued a call for papers for the world’s biggest annual geothermal energy conference taking place September 15-18, 2019, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, Palm Springs, California, USA. The deadline for submission is Friday, March 15th, 2019. More Information..........

Kenya: Drilling to Resume at 70 MW Akiira One Geothermal Project - Centum Investment Company Plc and its partners plan to resume exploration for geothermal steam in Naivasha by March after previous two wells yielded less resource than what is required to sustain electricity generation.

Global: Women Represent 32% of the Renewable Energy Workforce - IRENA Report - This compares favourably to the broader, conventional energy sector. Still significant imbalances remain, both in highly developed markets and in communities where renewables are only now extending energy access.

USA, Idaho: Power Engineers Wins Engineering Excellence Award for Kizildere-3 Geothermal Power Plant - The American Council of Engineering Companies of Idaho recently awarded POWER Engineers Inc. a first-place Engineering Excellence Award for its Kizildere-3 Geothermal Power Plant.

USA, Nevada: New Report Documents Significant Benefits of Geothermal Energy Development in Rural Nevada - The report shows a model geothermal project would result in a better economic output than a model potential solar project.

Kenya: New Power Line Connects Western Kenya to Cheap Geothermal Power from Olkaria - Kenya Power will construct an 85-kilometre power line between Narok and Bomet to connect western Kenya to cheap power produced at the Olkaria geothermal fields.

Bolivia: First Funds Provided for the 5 MW Pilot Plant at the 100 MW Laguna Colorada Geothermal Project - The Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) has transferred 41.9mn bolivianos (US$6mn) to National Electricity Company (ENDE) for the US$28mn pilot plant.

Finance: Global Investment in Geothermal Up 10% at $1.8 billion in 2018 - Global clean energy investment totaled $332.1 billion in 2018, down 8% on 2017.

United Kingdom: First Well at United Downs Deep Geothermal Power Project to be Production Well - Having reviewed the drilling performance to date, and the geological information from cuttings, we have decided that the first well will now be the production well.

Republic of Ireland: Postdoctoral Fellowship Available for Offshore Geothermal Energy Research - This project presents a highly innovative and potentially disruptive case study from the Lower Cretaceous Dunquin North carbonate build-up, in the southern Porcupine Basin off the SW coast of Ireland.

New Zealand: Te Ahi O Maui Geothermal Power Could Reduce Power Bills by More than $300 a Year - Some Gisborne power bills could be about to fall by more than $300 a year, following the commissioning of a new $136m geothermal power plant.

Germany: Geysir Europe GmbH Increases Share in Landau Geothermal Power Plant- Geysir Europe GmbH now holds 100 percent of the shares in the operating company of the power plant in Landau.

Iceland: Abstract Submission Deadline for World Geothermal Congress is 30th January- Authors are invited to submit abstracts and share their latest findings, research and experience with the global geothermal community.
