Kenya: KenGen to Apply "Internet of Things" Technologies to the Olkaria Geothermal Power Project

The Kenya Electricity Generating PLC (KenGen) has signed a joint declaration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to improve security and efficiency in geothermal power generation with Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

The declaration brings together stakeholders of the upcoming operation and maintenance capacity strengthening with internet of things (IoT) technologies for the Olkaria Geothermal Power project. It creates a platform for dialogue between the industry, manufacturers, policy makers and investors. The aim is to jointly build capacities and promote sharing of expertise with a view to improving efficiency.

Miano said the joint declaration would open up opportunities for KenGen to enhance and strengthen capacity with IoT technologies to efficiently exploit geothermal resources with a view to meeting Kenya’s ever-rising power needs.
