Monday, October 1

Europe: Consortium Receives Funding for "Geothermal Emission COntrol" project - The project will advance the provision of cleaner and cost-effective geothermal energy across Europe and the World with reduced emissions of carbon and sulphur.

Austria: Seismic Imaging Starts for Vienna Geothermal District Heating Project - The project GeoTief Vienna surveys the geology in the eastern area of ​​Vienna in order to explore the potential of low-lying hot water resources. After initial investigation in the past year, detailed 3D seismic measurements now follow.

Indonesia: Geothermal Resource Risk Mitigation Project Could Add 1-1.5 GW Geothermal Energy Capacity if Funding is Approved - The proposal for the Indonesia Geothermal Resource Risk Mitigation Project submitted by The World Bank, will support geothermal developers’ resource confirmation drilling.

Poland: More Funding for Geothermal District Heating Projects - To start, it will involve 7 municipalities as they conduct their initial research drilling. This will allow these regions to determine if there is geothermal water for energy production and, if so, what its potential may be.

USA, California: 44th Stanford Geothermal Workshop - Abstracts Due October 16 - The workshop will be held February 11-13, 2019, in Stanford, California.

Canada: Report on Nunavut Geothermal Feasibility - ​The Nunavut Geothermal Feasibility study is the first phase in identifying potential geothermal resources to help offset the use of diesel for electricity & heat in the isolated communities of Nunavut.

Canada: Opportunities for Geothermal Power Generation Partners in Saskatchewan - The program runs 2 years and is capped at 70 MW and applications MUST be submitted between November 15 at 10:00am to November 30, 2018 at 11:59pm.

Netherlands: Oil Company Applies for a Permit to Drill for Geothermal Resources in Rotterdam - If the license requested by Shell is granted, Shell will map the geothermal potential in the region concerned. This can lead to a first test drilling to geothermal energy by the end of 2020, and possibly several drillings in the following years.

In Memoriam: Beloved Geothermal Resources Council Member Passes - A celebration of the life of Geothermal Energy Pioneer Marcelo Lippman (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) will be held at Live Oak Park Picnic Area #1 at 1301 Shattuck Avenue, in Berkeley, California on Saturday, October 13, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.

USA, Hawaii: No Work on Restoring Puna Geothermal Venture Can Begin Until at least December 1 - No work on restoring Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) can begin until at least Dec. 1 after Gov. David Ige extended his emergency proclamation for the fourth time earlier this week.

The International Geothermal Association (IGA) invites its membership to cast their vote on extending the current Board Term by a period of 6 months to April 2020 so as to coincide with the World Geothermal Congress 2020 where the new Board will begin their term at the AGM held at that time.
