Performed by DMT GbmH & Co. KG, one of the largest ever inner-city 3D surveys came to a successful end last week. The Essen based technology service provider, contracted by Stadtwerke München Services GmbH (Munich's municipal utilities company), had spent four months exploring deep underground in southern Munich by means of vibroseismic methods.
Stadtwerke München (SWM) aims to switch all of its power to renewable energy by the year 2040. A prerequisite for this is, of course, finding suitable locations for new geothermal plants. Hence, SWM commissioned DMT to explore an area of approximately 170 square kilometers in a 3D seismic survey, which started in early November 2015.
