Ormat Explores Solar Initiative at Heber Geothermal Plant (Imperial Valley Press)
At an investor’s conference at the end of March, Isaac Angel, chief executive officer of Ormat Technologies, Inc., said his company will be launching two game-changing initiatives in the coming year. At the top of the list for the multimillion-dollar Israeli alternative and renewable energy tech provider is widening its portfolio and the number of countries in which it operates. It also intends to expand its customer base, which has thus far been government and utilities.
Widening its technology portfolio will enable Ormat to offer power combining geothermal and solar technology to generate electricity. It has recently done so on a trial basis at its station in Heber, a press release said. The Imperial Valley complex is one of the company’s 19 geothermal power solutions in the United States. With 92 megawatts of capacity divided between three sites, it is also one of the largest.
Ormat has already built a solar array at Heber. Back in March 2014 Ormat sold a 10.8 MWe photovoltaic Heber Solar project.
