EDC Continues to Power Visayas Region Amidst Typhoon Yolanda (Philippine Information Agency)

As Typhoon Yolanda wreaked havoc in the Visayas region it also destroyed power lines which led to heavy and rotating brownouts.

Energy Development Corporation’s (EDC) Palinpinon 1 and 2 power plants also experienced a temporary outage due to the widespread destruction in the Visayas power grid at the height of the super typhoon, EDC public relations officer Frances Ariola said.

“This incident damaged one of EDC’s geothermal steam pipes.  The damage has caused steam to escape and create an unusually loud noise at around 6:00 p.m. as the power plants tried to power up and go back to the system to prevent further brownouts,” Ariola explained.
