After several months of reviewing documents and alternatives, the DOE has notified Congress that the 9,481 acre field —also known as Naval Petroleum Reserve #3 (NPR3) and most recently as the Rocky Mountain Oilfield Testing Center (RMOTC) — will be auctioned to the highest bidder.
The property also boasts a number of hot water wells. These geothermal features produce hot water from the Ten Sleep and Madison formations.
A minimum bid price for the field is not anticipated, but a conservative sale price of $30-$60 million is estimated. The government's estimate of value will be figured in May of next year at completion of an "upside" study.
