Icelandic Geothermal Power Plants a Popular Tourist Attraction (News of Iceland)

Geothermal power plants in Iceland are among the most popular attractions for Icelanders and foreign visitors. Gustaf Adols Skulason, CEO of Samorka, a federation of the Icelandic electricity industry, district heating, waterworks and sewage utilities, says that tens of thousands of tourists visit the largest power plants every summer, but some of them are open all year.

"For foreign visitors this is a great experience, especially to examine the geothermal plants. The hydro power plants are more well-known. But geothermal energy is a new experience for many people" said Gustaf Adolf. Both hydro and geothermal power plants are increasingly popular among Icelandic travelers as well.

Gustaf Adolf says that over 100.000 people visit the power plants and related constructions every year. The power plants are therefore among the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland.
