Prospects for Geothermal Energy in Western Australia (Yahoo!7 News)

If increased government support and private sector funding could be found, the Gascoyne region in Western Australia could be home to a geothermal energy industry.

Geothermal exploration permits are being considered by one of Australia’s leading geothermal exploration and development companies New World Energy of Perth for an area between Onslow and Carnarvon including on the Cape Range peninsula.

New World Energy managing director John Libby said his company was currently waiting to see the results of an experimental venture by Geodynamics to extract geothermal energy by drilling deep below the earth’s surface in the Cooper Basin in South Australia.
