Renewable Energy Supplies Half of all New U.S. Electricity in 2012
The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has just released a report revealing that renewable energy accounted for 49.10 percent of all new domestic electricity capacity in 2012, for a total of 12,956 MWe. Some 3,276 MWe (25.29 percent) came online during December 2012 alone.
This means that renewable energy now comprises 15.40 percent of total U.S. generating capacity.
The Geothermal steam power industry added 13 units for a total capacity of 149 MWe in 2012 compared to 9 units with a capacity of 56 MWe in 2011.
