Overlooking a body of water tucked into the folds of the desert, a group of visitors glanced toward the shoreline, marveling at the serenity of the small lake.

For these visitors — many of them coming from outside the United States — their purpose in visiting Churchill County was centered on the area's alternative energy production. The visitors on the one-day field trip came from the Geothermal Resources Council Annual Meeting in Reno to see Alterra Power's Soda Lake geothermal power plant and Enel's Stillwater geothermal/solar facility. Sandwiched between touring the two geothermal facilities was a tour of Naval Air Station Fallon and lunch at the officers' club.
