Geothermal Awards Announced as GRC Annual Meeting Opens in Reno

Best and Brightest of the Global Geothermal Community Honored at the 36th GRC Annual Meeting in Nevada

The Geothermal Resources Council (GRC), the world's premier geothermal association, has announced awards honoring the best and brightest of the global geothermal community. These prestigious awards have been a highlight of the geothermal calendar since the late 1970's.

The President of the GRC, Richard Campbell, announced the honors in the Opening Session of the 36th GRC Annual Meeting, opening today at the Peppermill Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada.

The GRC will present its prestigious Aidlin, Pioneer, and Special Achievement awards at its Annual Membership Meeting & Awards Luncheon, the climax to the GRC Annual Meeting, on Wednesday.

"The recipients of these awards often have a lifetime of achievement in the geothermal academic, scientific and commercial communities", said GRC Interim Executive Director Steve Ponder. "The GRC Awards recognizes the contributions of these individuals to the geothermal sector".

The award winners are:
  • R. Gordon Bloomquist - Joseph W. Aidlin Award
    For outstanding contributions to the Geothermal Resources Council and to the development of geothermal resources.
  • Darrell L. Gallup - Geothermal Pioneer Award
    For outstanding achievements in the development of geothermal resources.
  • Tsuneo Ishido - Geothermal Special Achievement Award
    For outstanding achievements in the development of geothermal resources.
  • Doug Powell - Geothermal Special Achievement Award
    For outstanding contributions to the worldwide development and operation of geothermal electric generation facilities.
  • Jack A. Frost - Geothermal Special Achievement Award
    For outstanding contributions to the development and optimization of geothermal production pump systems.
  • Ahmad Ghassemi - Geothermal Special Achievement Award
    For outstanding contributions to the modeling of coupled chemical-thermal-mechanical processes and rock-fluid interactions in geothermal reservoirs.
  • Patrick Dobson - Geothermal Special Achievement Award
    For outstanding contributions to the understanding of the geology and geochemistry of geothermal systems.
