Webinar: Can coatings help mitigating material challenges in geothermal energy production? (TWI)
22 January, 2020, 3.00pm UK Time
The production of renewable electricity through geothermal resources is increasing at a rate of 500-700 MW per year. However, this growth rate is hindered by significant material challenges experienced, namely corrosion, erosion and scaling which often act combined. In order to mitigate such conditions, coatings can be designed to provide an effective and economical solution. However, the broad range of physical-chemical conditions encountered at different locations within a geothermal power plant, and the wide spectrum of available coating technologies makes the task non-trivial.
In this webinar, an overview of the damage mechanisms occurring in geothermal energy production will be provided, together with a review of past and ongoing research on coatings for geothermal damage mitigation. Focus will be given to the European funded Geo-Coat project.
