Geothermal Engineering Limited (GEL) has provided an update on drilling at the United Downs Deep Geothermal Power Project (UDDGP)
We have reached a depth of 2867m and are now tripping out of hole to pick up a new 12.25'' drill bit. Today has been a hive of activity with many local companies helping to prepare the site for crane operations to install two extra drilling fluid tanks.Once the new bit is installed we will continue drilling to our 'kick-off' point at 3,400m, this is where the hole will start to be inclined, eventually getting to a 30 degree angle.
On the 2nd February at 6.45am, UD-1 became the deepest hole onshore in Cornwall.
