A tie-up between Japan’s Inpex Corp, Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd and Mitsui Oil Exploration are seeking to launch commercial operations at a planned geothermal power facility in Akita prefecture in 2024.
The partners have conducted an environmental impact assessment for the project and submitted it to the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and local authorities, Inpex said on Monday. The aim of the assessment is to proceed with full-scale implementation of the project, located in the Oyasu district of Yuzawa City.
Inpex, Idemitsu and Mitsui have carried out commercialisation studies on the geothermal potential at the site through conducting resource evaluations, including flow tests and economic assessments.
