Beginning the meeting, Ambassador Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson said “I’m pleased with the immediate reception of the Deputy Energy Minister as energy is the main industry of Iceland. Our country used to solve the heating with geothermal water and we do not use coal at all. There is almost no possibility to export the energy as the country is surrounded by the sea. However, in recent years we have been implementing joint projects and programs with Europe, Africa, South Africa and China. We can share experiences of geothermal water sector and cooperate on this matter.”
Deputy Minister T.Gantulga noted that only few studies on geothermal water were conducted and an experimental project on using thermal properties of soil is being successfully implemented in Tsetserleg soum of Tuv aimag. The Deputy Minister emphasized that it is possible to conduct joint experiments on introducing geothermal water use, which ensures the ecological, environmental and financial sustainability.
The parties agreed to train Mongolian specialists on this matter in Iceland.
