Join the U.S. Department of Energy and the Institute of the Americas for a workshop on opportunities in the Mexican geothermal market. The workshop will take April 4th in La Jolla, CA, followed by an optional site visit to the Cerro Prieto geothermal plant in Mexicali, Mexico on April 5th.

Learn About Commercial Opportunities in Mexican Geothermal Energy
The Mexican geothermal sector is poised for growth with a much improved framework in place to facilitate the issuance of permits for site studies, as well as concessions for exploration and development of geothermal resources.

To better connect your business to these emerging opportunities, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Institute of the Americas are organizing a Mexican Geothermal Opportunities Workshop highlighting the country’s geothermal sector.

This workshop is designed to help U.S. power producers, technology providers, and other companies better understand how these policy and regulatory changes have created new business opportunities in Mexico, and the role of various federal agencies in Mexico and the United States in facilitating entry into the Mexican market.

The program will feature:

• An overview of a newly published DOE National Renewable Energy Laboratory report on geothermal opportunities in Mexico; 
• Panels of U.S. and Mexican government officials discussing recent Mexican energy reforms and how they impact U.S. companies interested in the Mexican geothermal market; 
• Insights from geothermal executives already doing business in Mexico; 
• A discussion of project finance and government programs that U.S. companies can use to support geothermal development; and 
• Keynotes from DOE and Mexican Ministry of Energy officials. 

This workshop and site visit are organized in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the U.S. Commercial Service, the Geothermal Energy Association, and Mexico’s Ministry of Energy and Federal Electric Commission.

Optional Site Visit to the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Plant in Mexicali: We are delighted to also offer participants an optional site visit on April 5th to the Cerro Prieto geothermal plant built and operated by Mexico’s Federal Electric Commission. Located in Mexicali, Mexico, the plant is one of the largest of its kind in the world with an installed capacity of roughly 820 MW.

The site visit will include transportation to and from Mexicali.
