USA: DOE Reports Projects Additional 800 MW Geothermal Energy by 2022

Annual Energy Outlook 2017 (DOE)

Report concludes that some geothermal resources are also competitive sources of new generation, but these lowest-cost resources are geographically limited and are only expected to be exploited slowly.

The Annual Energy Outlook provides modeled projections of domestic energy markets through 2050, and includes cases with different assumptions of macroeconomic growth, world oil prices, technological progress, and energy policies.

For geothermal energy the report projects an additional 800 MW between 2018 and 2022 despite having one of the lowest Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) and Levelized Avoided Cost of Electricity (LACE) among energy sources.
