Toshiba, trying to reshape itself, sees opportunities in overseas geothermal power projects.
Geothermal plants generate power with turbines that are either directly or indirectly driven by underground steam. Toshiba sits atop the global geothermal energy market on an output capacity basis with a 26% share.
Tsutomu Higashizawa, senior manager of Toshiba's thermal power unit global sales, recently spoke with The Nikkei about the opportunities he sees.
Q: In which regions are you focusing?
A: You can't find geothermal resources everywhere. In Asia, for example, they lie in Indonesia, the Philippines and Turkey. Africa, the U.S. and the Middle East also have a lot of potential.
Toshiba American Energy Systems Corporation (TAES) will be exhibiting at the GRC Annual Meeting & GEA Geothermal Energy Expo, October 23-26 in Sacramento, California, USA.
