USA, California: Wildfire Threatens The Geysers Geothermal Field

Lake County fire explodes to 40,000 acres (KCRA News)

10:30pm PST: The fire — which cast a smoky haze over the North Coast and, in some locations, wafted ash — also extended across the Sonoma County line near The Geysers geothermal energy complex, causing what Sonoma County Fire Chief Al Terrell described as “significant damage” to three Calpine cooling towers.

9:15pm PST: One person has been killed and up to 1,000 homes and buildings have been destroyed by a fast-moving wildfire burning in Lake County, according to the AP.

4:10pm PST: The Valley Fire Incident is currently 50,000 acres with 0% containment. The fire is threatening critical communications infrastructure in the Geysers area, as well as, threatening the Calpine Aidlin Power Plant.

A wildfire near The Geysers geothermal field in Northern California has led to the evacuation of the town of Middeltown, home to many geothermal company workers and of the Calpine Geothermal Visitors Center.




A fast-moving wildfire burning in Lake County exploded overnight to 40,000 acres, Cal Fire officials said. Several structures have already been destroyed by the fire, which broke out about about 1:24 p.m. Saturday off Highway Valley Road and Bottle Rock Road in Cobb.

Cal Fire has issued the following information: The Valley Incident has grown to 40,000 acres, 0% containment. The fire is burning in a south east direction from the Community of Cobb towards the communities of Middletown and Hidden Valley Lake. The fire is also burning north east from the Community of Cobb near the Community of Loch Lomond to Seiglar Canyon Road. Click here for the latest......
