Paisley Geothermal Plant Still Not Operable (Herald and News)

The future of a $21 million geothermal power plant in Paisley remains uncertain.

“I’m not going to comment,” said Lynn Culp, member service manager for Surprise Valley Electric Corp., the Alturas-based company involved in developing a geothermal power, of why the project has been delayed and when it might become operable.

It was previously hoped the plant, which is expected to produce 3 megawatts of renewable power, or about enough net output to provide power for 600 to 700 single-family homes, would be online by fall 2013. The date was later moved to summer 2014. Along with selling power the on the grid, Paisley-area people hope the facility can heat the Paisley School, community buildings, a tilapia farm and greenhouses.

“They will get un-disappointed soon enough,” said Culp, who noted previous timelines proved inaccurate.
