USA, California:

Renewable Energy Leader Extols Development of Geothermal

Jonathan M. Weisgall, a vice president for Berkshire Hathaway Energy Company, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, gave the keynote speech at the opening session of the 8th Annual Imperial Valley Renewable Energy Summit today at the Quechan Resort in Winterhaven, CA. He provided a good argument for further geothermal energy development.

He mentioned in particular opportunities for the geothermal energy industry in the Imperial Valley and California. He said that geothermal could play a big role in helping the state reach the proposed 50% target for renewable energy of the electricity supply in the state. It would provide a much needed baseload supply that would also help reduce carbon emissions.

The problem of the Salton Sea restoration could also be helped by more geothermal energy development in the Imperial Valley.
