Process takes CO2 from Svartsengi Geothermal Power Station to produce methanol

The plant takes advantage of carbon dioxide emissions from the on-site HS Orka Svartsengi geothermal power plant, mixes it with hydrogen and creates methanol, which is used for producing biodiesel and as an additive to gasoline.
Soon, the plant’s production will be up to 4,000 tons per year. The fuel has been sold in Iceland and abroad.
