Winner of National Geothermal Student Competition Announced (Truckee Meadows Community College)
A Geothermal Energy student team at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno, Nevada has won first place in the 2014 National Geothermal Student Competition (GSC), sponsored by the Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) in the U.S. Department of Energy.
Students Phil Ulibarri and Kim Baccelli were mentored by TMCC professor Jim Nichols to create their winning geothermal energy infographics and outreach plan. The theme for this year is “GeoEnergy is Beautiful 2014.”
The infographics graphically visualize clean geothermal energy production. Adobe Illustrator software was used to complete the entry, and it was submitted to the competition as a digital PDF file. The full color poster was entered as an 11x17 inch color print.
In addition to the entry by the TMCC team, there were two other finalist teams from the University of Texas-Pan American and University of Mississippi, who placed second and third place respectively. Winners were announced on Sept. 4.
The top five teams attended the Geothermal Resources Council Annual Meeting, this year in Portland, Ore. from Sept. 28-Oct 1. Winners and their work were introduced to attendees.
