Mindoro Geothermal Power to Last for 75 years (Manila Bulletin)

An energy company has confirmed that the geothermal deposits that they discovered in Mindoro could generate at least 40 to 50 megawatts of electricity and will last for 75 years.

Gani Canaping, media and PR department head of Emerging Power, Inc. (EPI) said their discovery, dubbed as the “Mindoro Geothermal Project,” could generate more than enough energy for the whole island’s power needs in the next 20 years.

Canaping said this promises low-cost electricity for the people of Mindoro.

He said ISOR (Iceland GeoSurvey), an Icelandic company, located the geothermal reservoir lying some 600 meters deep and that the clay cap which contains the geothermal fluid is just 200 meters below the surface of Barangay Montelago, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
