KenGen to Use Mobile Wellheads to Tap Cheaper Geothermal Power (Daily Nation)

In a bid to generate more power at the cheapest rate, the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has introduced fourteen mobile well heads at the Olkaria power plant in Naivasha.

  • This will help KenGen generate power at a faster rate and at a reduced cost.
  • The mobile wellheads can generate power at a lower cost-per-megawatt and at a faster rate than standard geothermal projects.
  • KenGen CEO Albert Mugo said that the company will complete the final tests on the fourteen mobile geothermal wellheads in December 2015.
  • Geothermal wellheads are units which are quick to deploy and allow the tapping of geothermal wells almost immediately after drilling.
