Major Hawaii Geothermal Project Cut in Half, Switches Areas on Big Island (Pacific Business News)
Hawaii Electric Light Co. has cut its planned bid to expand geothermal energy on the Big Island in half to 25 megawatts, and now is looking to another part of the island to develop the project, according to public records.
Boston Pacific Co. Inc., the Washington D.C.-based consultant hired by Hawaii regulators to monitor HELCO’s bidding process for what was once a 50-megawatt project on the east side of the island, still has concerns with the project.
For instance, HELCO’s new energy plan, which was recently revealed, does not include any new eastside geothermal resources, the resource being invited to bid in the request for proposals.
