In honor of Public Power Week Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) is sponsoring a private, behind-the-scenes tour of geothermal power plants in The Geysers on Friday, October 10, 2014.
It’s been nearly eight years since AMP last offered this tour and it’s a great way to see first-hand how clean and renewable geyser steam is transformed into electric power. The plant workers will step us through the whole process from how the steam fields are naturally created to how the steam is converted into mechanical energy and, finally, electrical energy and delivered to the power grid.
- Buses will leave the AMP Service Center at 2000 Grand Street, Alameda, CA at 8 a.m. and we’ll return at approximately 6 p.m.
- There is no cost for the tour and lunch is included.
- Please be aware that once we arrive at The Geysers, the tour will be on foot only and we’ll encounter some challenging terrain.
- For safety reasons, children under 12 are not permitted on the tour.
- Seats are limited and reservations will be taken on a first-come basis.
