Azerbaijan:

New Lab to Study Geothermal Reserves in Caucasus (abc.az)

The Institute of Geology and Geophysics, operating under the Azerbaijan’s National Academy of Sciences (AMEA), has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (EAPS) department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MTI).

The Memorandum provides for establishment of the joint international geodesy and geodynamics laboratory. The project aims to continue studies of dangerous geological processes in Great Caucasus and other active tectonic areas.

According to AMEA, Akif Alizadeh, AMEA President,“The establishment of the laboratory will enable us to explore geothermal and hydrocarbon reserves, study hazard risks in oil and gas regions, landslide processes, dynamics of mud volcanoes and atmospheric phenomena using the advanced technologies”.
