This meeting will discuss the Energy Department's $31 million funding solicitation to establish the initial
phases of a field laboratory dedicated to cutting-edge research on enhanced
geothermal systems (EGS).
The new Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE)
initiative will focus on techniques to effectively stimulate large fracture
networks in various rock types, technologies for imaging and monitoring the
evolution of fluid pathways, and long-term reservoir sustainability and
management techniques.
The webinar will provide an overview of the three phases
of FORGE development with an emphasis on Phases 1 and 2, which focus on
selecting both a site and an operations team, as well as preparing and fully
characterizing the site. Lauren Boyd, EGS program manager for the U.S.
Department of Energy, will present. The event can be attended via live webinar
or in person at the pre-Summit event of the GEA Summit.
