Glenelg Shire Campaigns for Portland Geothermal Redevelopment (Energy Business News)

The Portland geothermal system redevelopment will be presented to the Victorian Government this week as part of a $50 million wish-list from the Glenelg Shire Council.

The redevelopment of the Portland geothermal system is estimated to cost around $3.25 million.

Located in Henty Park, Portland, the geothermal system was constructed in 1983, but closed during 2006 due to structural concerns.

Using 60 degree water drawn from the ground, the geothermal system heated a number of CBD public buildings, a large motel, the Portland hospital and a swimming pool during its life, with zero waste.
