Geothermal Energy has Potential in Big Sky Country (Great Falls Tribune)

Amid the oil boom in eastern Montana and North Dakota, and low natural gas and electricity prices in the Northwest, whatever happened to other forms of energy?

That’s a question I posed to Enrique Cooper of Lima, Peru, a Chilean-born consultant who visited Great Falls this month and who is well-versed in large-scale geothermal energy.

Montana would be in the medium category of being a candidate for a geothermal power plant that would use hot water, steam or brine sources deep in the earth to turn turbines to create electricity, Cooper said.

Cooper met recently with a state economic development official in Helena, and with Montana Public Service Commissioner Travis Kavulla. Cooper was impressed with the knowledge state government has of geothermal energy.
