Sri Lanka Looks to New Zealand for Geothermal Energy Expertise (Colombo Gazette)

The island nation of Sri Lanka has expressed an interest in using geothermal energy for its power needs.

The subject arose during a briefing given by Sri Lanakan External Affairs Minister Professor G L Peiris during bilateral discussions with Murray McCully, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Sports, at the Foreign Ministry in Auckland, the External Affairs Ministry said.

G L Peiris has expressed a wish to explore New Zealand’s excellent technology in the production of geothermal energy for power generation. As Sri Lanka seeks to diversify its energy sources and become less dependent on fossil fuels, it was suggested that this could be one option that could lead to a productive partnership with New Zealand.
