Japan:

JFE Unit Wins Order for Geothermal Power Project in Fukushima (Bloomberg)

JFE Holdings Inc.’s engineering unit won an order to set up a geothermal power generation system at a hot springs site in the northern prefecture of Fukushima.

A 400-kilowatt system made by Ormat Technologies Inc. will be installed for Tsuchiyu Onsen Energy Co., JFE Engineering Corp. said in a statement today. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

The project is one of two geothermal stations whose debt is being guaranteed by the Japanese government as the country pushes for more clean energy use.

JFE Engineering signed an agreement with a unit of Ormat in 2010 to cooperate on geothermal projects in Japan.

The hot spring resort known as Tsuchiyu Onsen, located in Fukushima City, will be the first Japanese national park to have a geothermal power plant constructed within its borders.
