Bolivia, Japan Ink Geothermal Project Deal (Business News Americas)
The government of Bolivia signed an agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the construction of the Laguna Colorado geothermal power plant. JICA has designated US$25mn for construction of the plant.
The plant, which is slated to be completed and brought online in 2019, will be located in the Sol de Mañana geothermal field in Bolivia's Potosí department and will have a substation and a transmission line connecting to the country's silver largest mine, San Cristóbal.
Laguna Colorado is expected to add 50 MW to the national grid at the outset and ultimately reach 100 MW while Bolivia's current annual power demand is put at 1,350 MW.
