Hawaii Electric Light Puts Off Geothermal Decision Until Study is Done (The Business Journal)
Hawaii Electric Light Co. has put off a decision on expanding geothermal power on the Big Island until after a power supply improvement plan is completed next month in response to a recommendation from an independent observer, the Boston Pacific Co.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports the decision was made after the Boston Pacific Co. criticized HELCO for moving forward with a request-for-proposal process seeking up to 50 megawatts of additional geothermal power on the island before completing a study to see if it is needed.
Six companies had submitted proposals last September for the project, but HELCO has since postponed making a decision at least once before.
