Administrator Contracts for Leyte Power Facilities Awarded (BusinessWorld Online Edition)

Two power firms have received notices of award for their winning bids as independent power producer administrators (IPPAs) of the Unified Leyte geothermal power plants’ contracted capacities, according to separate disclosures yesterday.

Aboitiz Power Corp., in a disclosure, said wholly owned Aboitiz Energy Solutions, Inc. (AESI) “received the formal notice of award for the appointment of the… IPPA for the strips of energy of the Unified Leyte geothermal power plants.” AESI was awarded 40 MWe of the facility’s total capacity.

The Unified Leyte complex -- which straddles Ormoc City and municipality of Kananga -- is composed of the 125 MWe Upper Mahiao plant; 232.5 MWe Malitbog plant; 180 MWe Mahanagdong plant; and 51 MWe optimization plants.

Vivant Energy Corp., a wholly owned unit of Vivant Corp., also said it received the notice of award as the IPPA of 17 MWe.

AESI and Vivant were identified as two of the seven highest bidders in the IPPA auction conducted by the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) in November last year.
