Saipan to Reissue RFP for Geothermal Exploration (Saipan Tribune)

The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. (CUC) will soon start the ball rolling on the much-awaited renewable energy plan for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

KUTh Energy of Australia had won a previous bid to develop geothermal energy on Saipan, only for that same request for proposal to be cancelled months later.

CUC executive director Alan Fletcher said that the agency is poised to issue two new Requests for Proposals, to help the islands move toward renewable energy. These two proposals are for geothermal exploration and for the integrated resource planning, which will focus on developing new energy sources for the Commonwealth.
