EDC Reactivates 2 Units of Typhoon-Damaged Unified Leyte Geothermal Plant

Energy Development Corp (EDC) has restored partial operations at the Unified Leyte geothermal power complex more than a week after it sustained damage from Typhoon 'Yolanda'.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, EDC said a portion of the 125 MWe Upper Mahiao and 51 MWe Leyte Optimization plants are now generating electricity.

"The power plants are currently on reliability runs and have successfully dispatched 57 MWe into the grid," the country's largest geothermal energy producer said.

The two power plants are part of the Unified Leyte facility, which also includes the 232.5 MWe Malitbog and 180 MWe Mahanagdong generating facilities.
