US OKs 1.5GW Western Wire (reNews)

Transmission line will connect geothermal rich Idaho to the national grid


The US Interior Department has approved the 1500 MW Gateway West transmission line project in southern Wyoming and southern Idaho, said Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.

“The line will strengthen the Western grid, bringing a diversified portfolio of conventional and renewable energy (including geothermal energy) to meet the region’s projected growth in electricity demand,” 
said Jewell.

The 990-mile high-voltage line is one of seven priority projects of President Barack Obama administration’s Rapid Response Team for Transmission, which aims to improve the overall quality and timeliness of electric transmission infrastructure permitting.
